I was out fertilizing the yard this morning while listening to some tunes on shuffle and a Radiohead song came on. I decided I was in a Radiohead kind of mood so I switched off the 'shuffle all' and proceeded to listen to Radiohead pretty much the rest of the day. So today is Cover Song Sat Night - Radiohead Edition. Even the Song of the Day is a Radiohead cover, performed by an Irish folk singer by the name of Luka Bloom.
First up tonight is Radiodread (Easy Star All-Stars) Featuring Skog Blog Favorite, Citizen Cope performing Karma Police. It's been a rough week for Brohammas on the Skog Blog so here is one for him. I know Spammon is a fan of this cover and I assume Brohammas will be once he hears it as well.
Next up let's slow things down somewhat and even get a bit, I dare say, jazzy. I present to you Jamie Cullum, a British guy who is a cross between Harry Connick, Jr and Ben Folds. The song is High and Dry.
When you take one of the most innovative bands in Rock (Radiohead) and mix them with one of the most original bands of the past few years (Gnarls Barkley) you get this cover of The Reckoning.
Kid A was a polarizing album that was either loved or hated with equal amounts of passion by fans and non fans of Radiohead. Here is John Mayer doing the title track from that album. I like it since you can actually understand the words unlike the album version that was some kind of freaky computerized voice.
Last is my favorite Radiohead cover of one of their greatest songs Fake Plastic Trees. Duncan Sheik has played this the last three times that I have seen him in concert and it never disappoints. The first time I heard him play this song was at an in-store performance at the Taylorsville Graywhale CD. When the band kicks in for the final verse I may or may not have gotten the chills.

I'm not trying to push your buttons here but I don't 'get' the Radiohead addiction - they're weird, KG.
But I do like John Mayer singing anyone's music but his own - it lessens the chances of cheesiness.
Are they weird in a 'I own a bag with Thom Yorke's face on it' kind of way?
Yeah, kind of like that...but slightly weirder.
Radiohead is good but they dont really push my buttons.
Radiodread is good and it leads me to an admission that reggea's addiction to covering every song ever written is a bot out of hand.
It's funny that you say that reggae needs to stop the cover madness. I just read this morning that tomorrow the Easy Star Allstars (Radiodread and Dub Side of the Moon) are releasing 'Lonely Hearts Dub Band.' Ha.
Good cover! For me, I always thought Radiohead a bit weird. Especially the fact that they laughed at Scott Tenorman after he ate his parents.
I am excited for the Easy Stars next album, the cover of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. It goes right on with my theory that The Beatles music always sounds better when covered by someone else.
I don't know whether Brohammas will take this as combattery toward his comment or support for his preferred musical genre (probably the former) but I often find that I don't mind a reggae rendition of a song - at least it sounds like a totally different song and not like some young Whitney-wanna-be covering a Whitney song. Reggae bands usually put their own spin on things to where I can almost view it as an entirely different song.
I'm going to agree with Corbie. Taking a completely different style of music with reggae and slamming it with a common song is nice to hear. Granted it already had somewhat of a reggae beat to begin with, but Dub Side of the Moon was awesome. A lot of the classic rock music that has been done reggae style is tits.
Now, some of the Dancehall covers are a little too whacked out for me.
Spammon: You have all but taken over my favorite phrase 'tits'. You are 'nips' and 'stellar' - 'tits' is mine.
This post is nips. And KG is nothing but stellar. And yes Corbie, you still are, and always will be: tits.
As much as I appreciate the kind words Spammon, before you throw out adjectives such as 'stellar' in the same breath as KG, I need to come clean about something. I believe 'twas I who once said on your blog that I would prefer Barry over Bob. Corbie only backed me up after I made the statement. I hope you will still come around the Skog Blog. It has been nice having you back. If not, I understand. It's been one helluva run.
Well, when you put it that way...feel free to use 'tits' at your leisure...
KG - I stand by my statement that this post is nips and that you are stellar. However you may never have stellar nips due to that statement. They are words that will live in infamy, and even to this day when I even mention that to people, children hide and women scream.
its great to have a reasonable presence (Spam) back in the Skogblog.
You didn't have to put the object of your fondness (i.e. Spam) in parantheses, Brohammas...I don't think there was even a moment that any of the rest of us thought you were referring to us (particularly me). However, one of these times you will be in a political debate with Spam and my opinions will perhaps be in support of your argument and then you will like me again because very few people argue with Spammy...it's why he thinks I'm 'tits'. Well, that and the fact that I can out-eat him at a sushi restaurant (yes, KG, that was me creating an opening for you to introduce a sushi meet and greet).
I'm not even going to entertain the notion that you can out-eat me in anything. Everyone knows that a lightweight like you who can't eat past 4:00 has no business in an eating contest. I won't even throw up numbers because you were absolutely destroyed that night.
Well then I challenge you to a rematch. You and Linds, me and Robert, KG and Wheels, Penny and that do-gooder of hers, and anyone else who wants to challenge me to a sushi eating contest. I'll win this time - you better come hungry.
So what you are saying, is that you want four more witnesses to the massacre. Bring it on. Set the date, we'll be there.
